Traveler's Notebook Passport Size Refill "001" lined
The Refill 001 ruled is an insert notebook in Passport format for the Traveler's Notebook system by Traveler's Company. It consists of 64 pages of MD Paper – Designphil's in-house paper, specially designed for writing with fountain pens. The saddle stitch binding keeps the notebook flat and open without the binding interfering with writing. Dimensions: 12.4 × 8.9 cm.
Highlights
- MD Paper: The slightly off-white paper has a fine tooth – enough tactile feedback for controlled pen strokes, smooth enough for quick writing without catching. Fountain pens glide smoothly without scratching or skipping.
- No bleed-through, minimal feathering: MD Paper reliably resists even wet inks. Lines remain sharp, shading comes across clearly – both sides of the page are usable.
- 6.5 mm ruling: The line spacing is generous enough for clearly legible handwriting with medium to broad nibs, narrow enough for structured entries in a compact format.
- Saddle stitch binding: The notebook lies completely flat, even when open in the Passport cover. No spine that lifts the left page.
- Passport format 12.4 × 8.9 cm: Fits precisely into all Passport covers from Traveler's Company. Multiple refills can be combined with the Connecting Band 011.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pens with fine to broad nibs: MD Paper clearly shows ink shading and accepts even wet inks without feathering. Particularly beautiful: blue-black inks appear bold and high-contrast on the slightly warm white paper.
- Travel diary, logbook, protocol: The ruling gives quick notes structure without constraining the format. Well-suited for daily entries, conversation notes, or short text passages on the go.
- Combination with other refills: A ruled 001 alongside a blank 003 or kraft paper refill – the Passport system allows free mixing of different inserts in one cover.
- Pencil and rollerball: The slightly textured MD Paper provides pleasant grip for pencil strokes. Rollerballs dry quickly, gel pens work well on this surface.
- Page numbers and indexes: The compact format and clear ruling make the notebook a practical companion for numbered entries or alphabetical mini-indexes.
For Paper Enthusiasts
MD Paper – originally developed as "Midori Diary Paper" – is a specialty paper produced by Designphil in Japan. It is acid-free and clearly shows ink characteristics such as shading and shimmer, though somewhat less intensely than very thin, smooth Japanese paper. The slight tooth of the surface gives the writing pen noticeable feedback – a writing feel that many fountain pen enthusiasts describe as "balanced": neither the glass-smooth glide of extremely smooth papers nor the resistance of standard paper. The refill is saddle-stitched and measures approximately 4 mm thick when opened – narrow enough to carry two or three notebooks simultaneously in a Passport cover.
