Traveler's Notebook Regular Size of brown leather

The leather cover of the Traveler's Notebook Regular is vegetable-tanned cowhide – hand-cut, undyed and deliberately left untreated so that the surface and colour become deeper and more characterful with every use. The brown leather feels firm and smooth to the touch at first, becomes increasingly supple through body warmth and use, and develops a warm, velvety patina. The modular system with interchangeable inserts transforms the cover into a durable foundation – for a travel journal, daily journal or anything in between.

Features

• Vegetable-tanned cowhide, hand-cut: No chemical surface treatment – the leather responds directly to touch, light and time. Each piece develops a different patina; scratches and water marks discolour over time and become part of the surface.
• White powder when first opened: This is natural leather fat from the tanning process – simply rub it in with a soft cloth. It conditions the leather on first contact and immediately adds suppleness.
• Sealed internal cord: The inserts hang from a firmly secured, sealed cord inside. Inserts can be changed or added at any time without altering the construction of the cover.
• Modular insert system: Blank, lined, squared, travel planner, perforated sketch paper, clear sleeves, adhesive strips for tickets – different inserts can be hung simultaneously via elastic band and freely combined.
• MD Paper in the blank insert: Traveler's Company's in-house MD Paper is 80 g/m², acid-free, ink-resistant and fountain pen-friendly – ink doesn't feather, no ghosting on the reverse side with standard fountain pens.
• Closure elastic with tin clasp: The elastic band runs through a sealed eyelet on the cover and keeps the notebook securely closed – even with multiple inserts attached.
• Linen protective pouch included: Protects the surface during transport and prevents untreated leather from rubbing against other materials when new.

Use & Tips

• Combining inserts: Up to three slim inserts can be hung simultaneously with the connecting band (available separately) – for example a blank insert for free notes, a weekly planner and a clear sleeve for tickets.
• Fountain pens and ink: The MD Paper of the blank insert handles wet fountain pens with fine to medium nibs without any problems. Those writing with stub nibs or very wet inks may experience slight page wrinkling – but with normal ink volumes, there is hardly any ghosting on the following page.
• Leather care: Occasionally rubbing in neutral leather fat or a small amount of hand cream intensifies the patina and keeps the surface supple. The less care you give it, the more rustic and textured the leather becomes over time.
• Inserting travel documents: Trifolded A4 sheets, boarding passes or city maps fit between the cover and insert – the leather is soft enough to temporarily accommodate a little extra volume.
• Shaping the patina deliberately: If you carry the notebook daily in your trouser pocket, you get evenly rubbed-off, darker leather. If you keep it in a bag, the original texture is preserved longer. Both approaches are explicitly part of the design concept.

The leather for the Traveler's Notebook covers is handcrafted in Chiang Mai, Thailand – each cover individually hand-cut, without template precision. Minimal irregularities in cutting and surface are deliberately part of the design. Pure vegetable tanning (without synthetic chromium salts) means the leather remains open-pored and directly absorbs moisture, oils and wear – this is exactly what makes the patina so individual and unpredictable. The MD Paper in the included blank insert is produced in Japan: 80 g/m², acid-free, with a slightly creamy surface that takes ink quickly and dries evenly. On this paper, many inks show their shading characteristics particularly clearly without feathering.
