MD Product Notebook grid (B6 slim)
The MD Notebook by MD Product is a squared notebook in the slim B6 format – designed around a single conviction: that the paper is at the center. MD Paper (Midori Diary Paper) has been continuously refined since 1960 and is designed for fountain pen writing: a velvety soft, slightly cream-colored surface over which the writing nib glides without perceptible resistance. The 5-mm grid is printed in delicate light blue – subtle enough not to distract from the handwriting, precise enough for structured notes, sketches, and grid layouts.
Special Features
- MD Paper, 80 g/m², chamois: The cream-white paper quickly absorbs fountain pen ink and shows no bleeding and minimal ghosting – reliable even with wet inks and broad nibs.
- 5-mm grid in light blue: Inspired by Japanese manuscript paper Genko Yoshi. Count marks on the margin and header lines help with quick orientation on the page.
- Thread binding, 180° lay-flat: Traditional Japanese thread stitching allows you to open the book completely flat from the first to the last page without pressure on the spine or page warping.
- Visible skeleton spine: The gauze tape on the spine is deliberately open – it showcases the craftsmanship of the binding and gives the notebook its characteristic, minimalist character.
- Paraffin/parchment paper dust jacket: The notebook comes without a hard cover – instead, a thin, semi-transparent paraffin paper jacket that puts the paper itself in the foreground. It can be removed or replaced with a matching MD Cover.
- Ribbon bookmark and labels: A ribbon bookmark marks the current page; archival stickers (including number, date, category) are included.
Application & Tips
- Fountain pen with fine to broad nib: MD Paper responds excellently to water-based fountain pen inks – the ink flows quickly without smudging. For wet pens or flex nibs, a short drying time is recommended; bleeding is rarely observed even with saturated lines.
- Brush lettering and calligraphy: The smooth surface allows brush tips and nib holders to glide evenly. The 5-mm grid works well as a baseline guide for capitals or for maintaining consistent letter sizes.
- Quick-drying gel or ballpoint refills: Also problem-free – the paper accepts oil-based and pigment-based refills without smudging.
- Structured journaling and bullet journal method: The 5-mm grid offers flexibility for migration arrows, habit trackers, weekly plans, and freehand drawings in a single session – without page changes due to bleeding.
- Archiving: The included labels enable consistent labeling of the book spine for shelf storage – practical when building a longer notebook series.
- Cover combination: The notebook fits into matching MD Covers in B6 Slim format from the LUIBAN range – leather, textile, or transparent – which provide mechanical protection and a personal touch.
For Paper Enthusiasts
MD Paper is acid-free and therefore archival-stable – ink does not yellow, pages remain dimensionally stable over years. The weight of 80 g/m² is deliberately chosen: heavy enough for a pleasant writing feel and rich ink coverage, light enough so the slim notebook with its 88 sheets (176 pages) in 175 × 105 × 10 mm format remains handy. Thread binding is not just aesthetic – it also prevents individual signatures from being lost with intensive use, which can become an issue with adhesive binding over time. The exposed gauze spine is a hallmark of thread stitching that bookbinding experts immediately recognize: thread, gauze, and adhesive work together as a mechanical unit.
