The MD notebook blank in A6 format is the pocket size of the MD line – compact enough for a jacket pocket, large enough for a full double-page drawing surface. Its core is the characteristic MD Paper: a cream-colored, 80 g/m² lightweight paper, specially developed for working with ink. The Japanese thread binding allows complete flat opening at 180 degrees – from the first to the last page. The notebook is supplied without an additional cover; the spine with the visible netting tape adhesive is a deliberate design feature.

Special Features

  • MD Paper, 80 g/m², cream-white: The slightly textured, soft surface produces a gentle, tactilely perceptible rustle when writing with a fountain pen – fountain pen ink flows in evenly without feathering or bleeding through. Both sides of a page are completely writable.
  • Blank pages without any grid template: The entire double-page spread can be used as a single connected surface – for sketches, layout designs, calligraphy practice, or free writing in any direction.
  • Japanese thread binding with hot glue: Individual sections of 16 pages each are sewn with thread and then glued together. The result is a book that lies flat without back pressure – no bulge or tension even in the center of the double page.
  • Exposed spine with netting tape: The MD notebooks deliberately come without a hard cover – anyone who wants to see and touch the paper can do so immediately. The exposed spine with the white netting adhesive tape is both a structural detail and a design decision.
  • Red ribbon bookmark: The color-coded ribbon – red marks the blank variant – reliably marks the current page without having to flip or search.
  • Glassine paper cover: The semi-transparent protective jacket protects the pages from abrasion while allowing the paper texture underneath to show through.

Use & Tips

  • Fountain pen and ink: MD Paper tolerates even wet fountain pens with broad nibs or generous ink amounts – writing colors with long drying times should dry briefly before turning the page. The paper is suitable for iron gall inks and permanent fountain pen inks.
  • Calligraphy: The lightly textured surface gives the brush or broad nib pleasant grip without tearing the line. The undivided blank double page provides space for large letterforms, composition designs, or bilingual layouts.
  • Sketches and quick drawings: Pencils, fineliners, and pigment inks work on MD Paper just as cleanly as fountain pens. The surface takes graphite evenly and erases well.
  • On the go as a pocket format: A6 (105 × 148 mm) fits in jacket and trouser pockets. The notebook is ideal as a travel diary, sketchbook for on the go, or daily companion for spontaneous notes.
  • Sleeves and covers: The MD notebook A6 can be inserted into matching MD notebook sleeves made of PVC, cardboard, or leather – the basic format is tailored to this accessory line.
  • Index stickers: The included stickers (labeling and ex libris type) can be used for topic marking on the cover or for page indexing.

For Paper Enthusiasts

MD Paper originally emerged in the 1960s as diary paper and has been continuously refined since then. The thread binding works according to a classic bookbinding principle: Individual sections are folded into 16-page signatures, sewn with thread, and then glued together – a process that gives the book suppleness and simultaneously prevents the spine from warping with repeated opening. The exposed book spine with the visible netting adhesive tape is not a cost-saving measure, but a deliberate choice: the paper should be the focus, not the cover. Anyone who wants to use the notebook frequently and intensively can supplement it with matching MD covers – plastic, cardboard, or leather – separately, without affecting the thread binding.
