Yamamoto Notebook Ro-Biki See-through Series - TS-7 N-9
The Yamamoto Ro-Biki notebook from the "See-through Series" combines the characteristic wax paper cover of the Ro-Biki line with a translucent, semi-transparent overlay sheet—a design feature that reveals the motif underneath while protecting it. Designed by papermakers with years of experience, the waxed kraft paper cover develops an aged, unique character through the scratches and creases of daily use. Founded in 1972 in Sakai, Osaka, Yamamoto Paper is a paper specialist that today designs its own writing materials based on decades of experience.
Key Features
- See-through overlay sheet: A semi-transparent front sheet lies over the cover and makes the underlying motif visible—it remains present with daily opening without being directly exposed to wear.
- Waxed kraft paper cover: The wax worked into the kraft paper fades over time, forms creases, and creates a vintage feel that makes the notebook's history visible. Each copy develops its own patina.
- Yamamoto "New Chiffon Cream" paper: The inner paper "New Chiffon Cream" is suitable for a range of writing instruments, including fountain pens and ballpoint pens. The cream-colored tint reduces glare and makes inks appear warm.
- Thread binding with 180° opening: The "thread binding" opens the notebook flat up to 180° while making the stitching thread visible—a deliberate bookbinding design element.
- Slim portrait format: The original standard size 91 × 210 mm combines a pocket-friendly width of 91 mm with the long side of an A5 sheet (210 mm)—plenty of writing space in portrait format.
- 60 pages: 60 pages on 80 g/m² paper—light enough for on-the-go, strong enough for fountain pens without noticeable show-through.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pens: The "New Chiffon Cream" paper handles wet inks well. Fine to medium nibs run smoothly; with very wet nibs or broad nibs, let dry briefly before turning the page.
- Dip pens and calligraphy: The paper handles not only pencils and ballpoint pens but also fountain pens and dip pens with good results. The smooth surface lets pen tips glide smoothly.
- On-the-go and at the desk: The format is designed to fit both in your pocket for outdoor use and for focused work at your desk.
- Traveler's Notebook compatible: The notebook fits in the regular Traveler's Notebook format as well as many other covers of this size. Ideal for refilling an existing system.
- Intentionally developing patina: Carry the cover consciously in hand, don't hide it in protective sleeves—this way, individual creases and glossy spots develop over time, making the notebook unique.
- Using the see-through effect: The translucent overlay sheet also works as a light protective layer for inserted cards, note slips, or a photo—visible yet protected.
For Paper Nerd Enthusiasts
Yamamoto Paper was founded in Sakai, Osaka, as a paper specialist and draws from decades of experience as a bridge between paper manufacturers and end consumers. The company is considered a "guardian" of paper culture and strives to preserve and pass on legendary, no longer produced paper varieties. The "New Chiffon Cream" paper is one of these carefully selected inner papers: 80 g/m², made from 100% recycled paper, with an ivory-cream tint. Thread binding is not only a durability measure but also an aesthetic choice—the visible stitching thread on the spine is standard in the Ro-Biki program, not by chance. The see-through overlay sheet from the series of the same name sets another design accent: The interplay between matte transparent paper and the cover underneath creates a depth effect that changes as the wax parchment develops more patina.
