Traveler's Notebook Regular Size Refill "012" drawing paper

Refill 012 fills the Traveler's Notebook Regular with 48 pages of Japanese drawing paper – a thick, highly absorbent paper designed for intensive colour application. The blank, unruled pages provide open space for sketches, watercolour, ink and calligraphy. Each page features a perforation line along which it can be cleanly detached.

• Absorbent, heavyweight drawing paper: The paper takes ink and colour with volume without bleeding through immediately – ideal for wet media such as watercolour paints, brush ink and ink-rich fountain pen writing. The paper is heavier in weight than the standard MD Paper refills from Traveler's Company.

Use & Tips

• Watercolour on the go: The paper handles light to medium watercolour washes; with very wet applications, dry layering is recommended to prevent the surface from swelling. Even so, the paper buckles significantly less than thin notepaper when exposed to moisture.
• Calligraphy with stub nib: The absorbent surface readily accepts ink from wide nibs and brushes, delivering rich, high-contrast strokes. For calligraphy with very fluid inks, allow for short drying times.
• Pencil and fineliner: The slightly textured paper offers pleasant feedback to pencils and accepts fineliner ink evenly.
• Pages as postcards: A detached page is postcard size – draw directly onto it and post.
• Combining with other refills: If you want to keep this sketch notebook alongside a second refill (e.g. ruled or blank) in the cover, you'll need a connector elastic band from the Traveler's Notebook system.

For Calligraphy Enthusiasts

The Japanese drawing paper in the 012 refill is not inkproof in the sense of archive-quality document paper – it is designed for absorption, not for smudge resistance after drying. It works well for calligraphy with nib and waterproof ink; with water-soluble inks, allow sufficient drying time before continuing to write. The surface is lightly sized, which means that with very water-rich media, colour initially sits on the surface before being absorbed – a behaviour that gives experienced watercolourists familiar control.
