Traveler's Notebook Passport "009" craft paper

Refill 009 brings mocha-brown kraft paper to the Traveler's Notebook Passport Size – raw, warm, untreated on the surface yet surprisingly capable of accepting a broad range of writing instruments. The specially developed paper by Traveler's Company combines the characteristic texture of kraft paper with sufficient ink resistance, so pencil, ballpoint and fountain pen all perform equally well. Thread binding keeps the 32 sheets (64 pages) flat and open – no snapping shut when writing right to the last line.

• Sketchbook on the go: The brown paper colour makes white gel ink, white fountain pen ink and light watercolour pencils stand out with excellent contrast – ideal for travel illustrations or urban sketches.
• Writing instruments: Pencil and ballpoint feel most tactile on the rough surface. Fountain pens with fine or medium nibs work well; very wet or broad nibs may feather slightly – allow some drying time.
• Scrapbooking & collages: The kraft paper accepts tape, washi tape and stamps well, giving stickers and inserts a warm, earthy background.

The paper in Refill 009 is not standard kraft paper from the packaging sector, but a paper weight specially developed for Traveler's Company with optimised ink fastness. The natural brown colouration occurs without optical brighteners – the paper is neither bleached nor coated, which explains the characteristic feel: slightly grainy, minimally absorbent, with a soft resistance under the nib. Inks with high pigment content (for example, rich iron gall inks) can sink more deeply into the fibre with broad nibs – for this combination, a fine or extra-fine nib is recommended. Lighter, less water-rich inks and pigment inks sit more compactly on the surface and produce sharper edges.
