The Traveler's Notebook in Passport Size is a vegetable-tanned leather cover in passport format – hand-cut, with a simple elastic closure and a sealed cord system for inserts. The olive color of the leather reveals itself in daylight with a warm, earthy undertone that varies depending on light conditions and patina development. With each use, the leather develops its own surface: rougher, livelier, unmistakable. The leather cover is handcrafted in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Special Features

• Vegetable-tanned leather, hand-cut: The leather is treated purely with plant-based tanning – without synthetic surface coating. This means: The surface shows signs of use. Scratches, water marks, and wear develop into an individual patina over time, making the leather softer and more supple.
• White powder upon first opening: On first contact, a fine white film appears on the leather – natural leather fat that can be rubbed in with a soft cloth and starts caring for the leather right out of the packaging.
• Sealed cord system for inserts: The inserts are hung on a sealed cord and can be exchanged at any time. The cover system is designed for long-term use – not the insert, but the leather cover is the permanent companion.
• Passport Size – perfectly sized format: At 13.5 × 10 cm, the notebook fits into any jacket pocket and is actually the size of a passport. Ideal for on the go, while traveling, or as a daily note-taking companion in everyday life.
• Black closure elastic with tin clip: The elastic band keeps the cover closed, the tin clip secures the system on the spine. Simple, functional, and without unnecessary mechanics.
• Included MD-Paper blank refill: The included blank refill contains MD Paper (Midori Diary Paper) – 80 g/m², acid-free, fountain-pen compatible, and with good ink resistance. No lines, no limitations: suitable for sketches, free writing, or watercolor studies.

Application & Tips

• Fountain pens and inks: The MD Paper of the included blank insert is fountain-pen compatible and shows minimal bleed-through with medium and fine nibs. Very wet pens or broad nibs can create slight ghosting – visible on the back but rarely causing actual bleed-through. Works without issues for ink pens and gel pens.
• Combine multiple inserts: With a Connecting Band (available separately), additional refills can be hung into the cover – such as a ruled insert alongside a weekly planner and a kraft paper notebook. The Passport Size easily carries two to three inserts simultaneously.
• Tickets, stamps, business cards: The Passport Size is suitable for storing small-format travel documents. A zipper insert (available separately) can be hung as a coin pocket or ticket holder.
• Leather care: The leather can be wiped with a soft cloth and, if needed, treated with a neutral leather care product. The olive leather darkens with moisture – if you want to control this, you can deliberately rub certain areas to deepen the color tone.
• Storage: The notebook comes in a linen protective bag, which can also be used for permanent storage. Avoid direct contact with other leather goods or vinyl – color transfer is possible.

The Traveler's Notebook system was developed in 2006 by Designphil under the Midori brand – today operated under the name Traveler's Company. The Passport leather cover is handcrafted in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the leather is approximately 2 mm thick and left without synthetic surface treatment. This is precisely what makes the difference from conventionally finished leather goods: each cover brings its own grain patterns, minimal scratches, and markings from the raw state of the leather – visible and desired. The MD Paper of the standard inserts is produced in Japan and weighs 80 g/m²; it is acid-free and shows a pleasantly smooth surface with fountain pens without nib drag. The olive color varies due to production between a warm brown-olive and a more distinctly green tone – a characteristic feature of naturally, non-standardized dyed leather.
