Pentel Orenz mechanical pencil (0.2 mm) black

The Pentel Orenz (PP502-A) is a mechanical pencil with a 0.2 mm graphite lead – one of the finest widths available in the mechanical pencil segment. At its heart is a finely polished steel tube that retracts flush with the lead as you write and draw, protecting it from breaking. The slender black plastic body sits lightly and narrowly in your hand: 147 mm long, 8 mm diameter.

• Retractable steel lead guide: The finely polished tube slides back with the lead as you press it to paper – the graphite tip stays permanently protected. 0.2 mm leads can be used reliably in everyday writing without constant risk of snapping.
• 0.2 mm line width: Enables hair-fine lines that are scarcely achievable with a conventional mechanical pencil – ideal for detailed technical drawings, miniature labelling, or closely spaced musical staves.
• Single-click mechanism: Before writing, one click advances the lead minimally. The guide sleeve then takes over stabilisation – no need to click again whilst writing.
• HB lead pre-installed: HB offers balanced contrast – black enough for clearly legible lines, hard enough to support the delicate 0.2 mm format.
• Clip: Slender metal clip on the barrel for secure placement in notebooks, sketchbooks, or shirt pockets.
• Compatible refill leads: Pentel Ain Stein fine leads 0.2 mm in various grades work perfectly (available separately in the LUIBAN range).

Use & Tips

• Technical drawing and detail work: Dimension lines, hatching, and miniature labelling work seamlessly with 0.2 mm without changing tools – the line remains consistently fine thanks to the protected guide.
• Click once, then write: The lead should protrude only minimally from the steel sleeve. Multiple clicks override the protection mechanism and increase the risk of breaking.
• Paper choice: On smooth, calendered paper, the 0.2 mm lead produces particularly clean marks – rougher surfaces increase resistance and can wear the tip more quickly.
• Hardness grade selection: HB (included) is an excellent all-round starting point. For even darker lines in sketching, softer grades such as B or 2B work well and are also available as Pentel Ain Stein 0.2 mm.
• Calligraphy and lettering: The Orenz is excellent as a guideline pencil for fountain pen calligraphy thanks to its fine width – the guide lines disappear under the ink without damaging the paper.
