The Platinum artWORKpen is a Japanese desk pen featuring a gold-plated steel nib in EF – designed for permanent placement on your desk, not for carrying in a pocket. It comes supplied with four cartridges of pigmented carbon ink: a deep black, water-resistant formulation that becomes light-fast on paper once dry. This makes it a serious tool for anyone who wants to draw, sketch or write with archival permanence using ink.

• Sketching and drawing: The EF nib produces precise, fine lines – perfect for outline drawings, architectural sketches, lettering or comic inking. Since the carbon ink dries water-resistant, you can subsequently work freely with watercolour or brush water without the line feathering.
• Writing at a fixed workspace: As a desk pen, it suits note-taking, journalling or everyday desk writing. The EF nib maintains precise lines even on slightly smooth, calendered paper.
• Alternative to disposable fine-liners: Unlike single-use pens, the artWORKpen is refillable. The carbon cartridges deliver a similarly consistent, fine line as pigmented fibre-tip pens – with the added benefit of fountain pen feedback.
• Cleaning after extended breaks: If you leave the pen unused for more than a few weeks, rinse it with clear water. Pigmented ink can narrow the feed system over time – the Slip & Seal mechanism delays this process, but doesn't replace regular maintenance.
• Storage: Always store upright with the nib pointing downwards, such as in a pen cup – this keeps the ink ready to flow in the feed system.

The ink feed of the artWORKpen is specifically tuned to the viscosity of pigmented carbon ink. This ink consists of finely dispersed carbon particles that bind physically to the paper surface as they dry – unlike dye-based inks, which soak into the paper. The result is a line with high optical density and sharp edges, even on slightly more absorbent papers. The EF nib of the DPQ-700A delivers line widths comparable to fine technical drawing pens. If you work on ink-resistant paper, allow several minutes drying time before the area comes into contact with moisture.
