Papoutsi roll-up pencil case "Paris" black "High Chaparral"
The "Paris" wrap case by Papoutsi is a handcrafted leather pen case made from black High Chaparral cattle leather – hand-sewn and crafted in Berlin. The leather is supple thanks to its high lanolin content (wool wax) yet firm: warm to the touch, with a lively, slightly irregular surface that makes each piece unique. Holds 15 to 20 pens – the wrap case closes with a leather strap and needs no zips or buckles.
Features
- High Chaparral cattle leather: The leather is treated with lanolin – this keeps it supple, provides nourishment, and develops an individual patina over time. The surface is naturally textured, not smoothed flat.
- Wrap format: The case rolls up and closes with an integrated leather strap – no velcro, no zip that can jam or break.
- Capacity for 15–20 pens: The open compartments accommodate fountain pens, fineliners, pencils and brush pens of varying diameters – bulky writing instruments like a fountain pen with a broad grip fit comfortably inside.
- Berlin handcraft: Each case is a handcrafted individual piece from the Papoutsi workshop in Berlin – carefully stitched, without mass production machinery.
- Compact format: At 19 × 6 × 2 cm, the rolled case lies flat in any bag and is designed as an everyday companion – not as an archive solution.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pen collection on the go: Those carrying multiple fountain pens protect them better in soft leather than in rigid plastic cases – the compartments cushion without pressing.
- Calligraphy set stored compactly: Stub nibs, reservoirs and a parallel pen fit side by side in the open compartments; the wrap format keeps everything securely in place.
- Leather care: High Chaparral leather with lanolin content requires no intensive care – occasional wiping with a slightly damp cloth or neutral leather conditioner is sufficient. The leather darkens slightly at contact points over time – this is intentional and typical of this material.
- Travel and desk: The case can be stored rolled up or laid flat open on the table – then it serves as a small work surface with direct access to all pens.
- Combination with the Papoutsi notebook: The Paris wrap case matches thematically and visually with the Poet II notebook in black High Chaparral leather – both from the same material, the same Berlin workshop.
For Leather Enthusiasts
High Chaparral is not smooth laminated industrial leather. The cattle leather retains its natural grain and is treated with lanolin – an animal wool wax. Lanolin keeps the leather supple without sealing the surface: the leather can breathe, absorbs and releases moisture, and develops a characteristic patina in the process. The "lively surface" that Papoutsi describes is not marketing speak: small irregularities in grain and colouring are features of this untreated, natural leather – and that's how you recognise it.
