Polish Notebook Klasyk dot grid storm (A5)
Papierniczeni's "Klasyk" is a hand-sewn notebook from Poland – crafted with a linen spine, thick cardboard cover and a gold-embossed "Notes" inscription. The 100g/m² paper accommodates fountain pens, ink roller pens and ballpoints equally well, and the thread binding allows it to open completely flat: both pages lie free, no hand needs to hold the book.
Features
- Hand-sewn thread binding: Each copy is bound manually – the sections are firmly stitched together, not merely glued. The book opens completely flat all the way to the spine without the binding giving way or pages tearing.
- Linen spine with gold embossing: The textile spine gives the book a matt, slightly textured surface that feels tactile yet unobtrusive. The embossed "Notes" inscription in gold is discreetly positioned – no printing that competes with your own handwriting.
- 100 g/m² paper, FSC-certified: The white, slightly smooth paper is sturdy enough that ink doesn't bleed through, and accepts fountain pen ink without feathering. Dot grid at 5mm spacing – tight enough for small handwriting, wide enough for free drawings or layouts.
- Format approx. A5 (205 × 152 mm): Slightly wider than standard A5, which provides more room on the left page when writing on both sides – the spine doesn't intrude into your writing space.
- 160 pages dot-grid: 80 leaves that sit comfortably in your hand – the book doesn't become heavy – handbag-compatible, yet with substance.
Use & Tips
- Fountain pens and ink roller pens: The 100g/m² paper accommodates wet nibs without buckling and displays sheening inks with pleasing vibrancy. Stub nibs produce clear lines without sinking into the surface.
- Bullet journalling and structured planning: The 5mm dot grid works for calendar layouts, trackers or mind maps without the dots becoming visually dominant. The flat opening is particularly convenient when cross-referencing pages.
- Watercolour and brush pens: The paper isn't designed for very wet techniques or heavy watercolour applications – but for brush pen lettering and light ink drawing with fine nibs, there are scarcely any limitations.
- Book block as reference: If you leave the book permanently open on your desk, you can lock it in an open position on one page – the thread binding holds this position without springing back.
- Storage: The sturdy cardboard cover protects the paper even without an elastic band; for portable use, a book cover in A5 format is recommended.
For Bookbinding Enthusiasts
The "Klasyk"'s manual thread binding follows traditional section-sewn binding – several sections of a few leaves each are individually sewn into the linen spine and then gathered together. The result is a book block that is mechanically more stable than adhesive binding and creates no "dead zones" in the centre when opened. The linen spine serves not merely as decoration, but as an integral part of the binding construction: it bridges the adhesive joint between cover and book block and provides the spine with the necessary flexibility for repeated flat opening over many years.
