Hobonichi Cover ONE PIECE magazine: Episode 1000 (A6)
The Hobonichi Techo Cover "ONE PIECE magazine: Episode 1000" is a collaborative A6-format cover case created around Chapter 1000 of the manga – one of the most significant chapters in the entire series. What makes this cover special: the outside and inside tell a story together. Against a light grey background reminiscent of a Jump Comics page, Eiichiro Oda's storyboard sketches are printed in light blue. Over this sits a transparent cover-on-cover layer that displays the finished inked artwork from the same chapter in black – removable, offering two completely different aesthetics.
Features
- Cover-on-cover with dual aesthetic: The transparent cover-on-cover displays the finished inked artwork from Chapter 1000 layered over the printed storyboard sketches beneath it. When applied, the design looks polished and complete – when removed, the sketched, halftone-style storyboard is revealed: a completely different character, two covers in one.
- Butterfly-stopper pen holders: The two pen loops, one on each side of the cover, are called "butterfly-stoppers": threading a single pen through both loops simultaneously acts as a hinge and keeps the cover securely closed, preventing pages from getting creased during daily use. The loops accommodate pens up to 13.5 mm in diameter.
- Interior pockets and card slots: The right interior pocket features the scene from Chapter 1000 where Luffy meets Kaido and Big Mom. The left side bears the collaboration logo of ONE PIECE magazine and Hobonichi Techo – without a pocket, clean lines.
- Reverse side of the cover-on-cover: On the back of the cover-on-cover, Luffy's famous line from Chapter 1000 is printed in English – his challenge to those standing before him, before he announces he will become King of the Pirates.
- Two bookmarks: The cover includes two bookmarks – one with a rectangular tag, one with a triangular tag. Perfect for marking both the monthly calendar and daily pages simultaneously.
- Polyester exterior material: Both outer and inner surfaces are made from polyester; the material sits comfortably in the hand, is lightweight and maintains its shape. The cover-on-cover is made from transparent PVC.
- Opens flat: The cover opens completely to 180 degrees and lies flat on the table – no need to hold it closed whilst writing.
Use & Tips
- Compatible Techo books: This cover is designed for the Hobonichi Techo Original (A6) and also fits the A6 Planner and Day-Free A6. The Techo book is sold separately – pairs beautifully with the ONE PIECE special edition book, which contains quotes from the manga.
- Pen recommendation: A single pen threaded through both loops keeps the cover securely closed during transport. Slim fineliner or rollerball pens with smooth barrels up to ~13 mm in diameter work particularly well. Pens with clips or irregular cross-sections may experience slight resistance when threading – this loosens with time.
- Attaching and removing the cover-on-cover: The transparent PVC cover simply slides over the existing case. For the calm storyboard look, simply remove it; for the finished manga look, slide it back on. Both take seconds and fundamentally change the cover's appearance.
- Care: Colour and print patterns are created through dyeing or printing on fabric. To preserve the print, dry cleaning with a soft cloth is recommended; the PVC cover-on-cover can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth.
- Storage in a bag: With a pen inserted, the butterfly-stopper mechanism keeps the cover reliably closed – no separate elastic band needed.
For ONE PIECE and Hobonichi Enthusiasts
The cover-on-cover concept in this model is more than decoration: the Episode 1000 case combines the finished original artwork from Volume 99 of the manga with the complete storyboard for "Chapter 1000: Monkey D. Luffy", published in ONE PIECE magazine Vol. 13. When you remove the transparent overlay, you see Oda's drawing process – the pencil structure of the storyboard as a standalone printed image on the polyester fabric. This isn't a stylised effect, but primary source material: the actual working sketch of the chapter followed by millions of readers worldwide. For collectors and manga enthusiasts, this makes the difference between a pretty licensed design and a piece of production history.
