Hobonichi Cover minä perhonen: skyful (Yellow) (Weeks)
The Hobonichi Weeks Cover minä perhonen: skyful in Yellow is a collaboration between Hobonichi and the Japanese fashion brand minä perhonen – a label that transfers hand-drawn designs into specially dyed, embroidered and woven textiles. Soft cotton fabric on the outside, vibrant yellow on the inside: this cover carries an entire mood with it. The skyful pattern, which first appeared as a Hobonichi cover in 2014, returns here in a colour scheme designed exclusively for this Techo.
Features
- Multicoloured embroidery on soft cotton fabric: The coloured dots – inspired by a star-filled sky – are stitched using two different thread types. This creates a tactile relief with raised, matte surfaces and areas with subtle sheen. No two covers are alike, as all pieces are hand-sewn and the pattern orientation varies individually.
- Vibrant yellow inside and on the butterfly stopper: The inner lining and pen-holder loops appear in bold yellow. The butterfly stopper pen holders grip the pen at the clip – keeping it secure without straining the clip – and simultaneously function as a fastener that additionally secures the zipped Techo.
- Zip with cow leather pull: The pull is made from natural leather and features a butterfly charm – a detail that Hobonichi included as a characteristic design element.
- Interior fittings for everyday use: Inside you'll find a pen holder (clip mechanism), card slots, a wide slip pocket for notes and tickets, and a bookmark.
- Exclusive colour way: The yellow of this skyful cover was developed specifically for the Hobonichi Techo and is not available as a regular minä perhonen textile in this combination.
Use & Tips
- Pen size matters: The butterfly stopper holder grips the pen's clip. Very broad or clipless pens won't fit – slender models with a sturdy clip (e.g. diameter up to approx. 12 mm) work smoothly and can be safely stored with the zip closed.
- Embroidery care: Since raised threads can be damaged when sharp objects (pen nibs, paperclips) hook into them, it's best not to combine the cover in your bag with loose writing instruments – always clip the pen into the holder.
- Colour transfer: As with all deeply dyed textiles, friction, moisture or pressure can cause colour bleeding. Protect light-coloured inner surfaces of bags or notebooks, particularly during the initial break-in period.
- Weekly planner format (Weeks): The cover accommodates the Weeks booklet by sliding either the front or back cover of the booklet into the inside pocket – not both at once, as this can strain the binding.
For Techo Enthusiasts
minä perhonen works exclusively with textiles that are entirely self-designed: patterns are created as hand-drawn illustrations, then embroidered, dyed or woven – always in a way that preserves the origins in the original drawing. For the skyful pattern, this means: cotton as the base fabric, combined with two different thread qualities in the embroidery – one with a matte surface, one with a subtle shimmer. Only this combination lets the star dots appear to shimmer optically, even though the motif is geometrically simple. Since each cover is hand-sewn, the pattern orientation varies slightly from piece to piece – a characteristic of textile craftsmanship, not a quality defect.
