The Hobonichi Planner 2027 HON in A6 format is a full-day daily planner with an integrated hard cover – book and binding in one. The cover features an exclusive original illustration by Hiroko Kubota: "String Telephone Until the Moon is Full" – an evocative evening meadow where a cat and wolf communicate via tin-can telephone, a mouse rides her unicycle along the string, and a delicate crescent moon slowly grows in the sky. The cover is bound as a lightweight hardcover yet retains enough flexibility to bend comfortably in hand.

Features

  • Full-page colour gradient sky across front and back: The cover wraps the book in a quiet twilight meadow, its sky shifting from deep blue at the top through soft pink to orange at the horizon. A Ferris wheel turns slowly in the background, and a white crescent moon hangs in the sky.
  • Silver foil on year and logo: The year 2027 and HON logo on the front cover and spine are finished with matt silver foil that gently catches the light.
  • Tomoe River paper: The book uses thin and lightweight yet robust Tomoe River paper – characterised by its ability to accept ink well and deliver a smooth writing experience. The paper is equally ready for fountain pens, fine-liners and gel refills.
  • Sewn binding for 180° opening: Like the Hobonichi Techo, the HON uses thread binding, so it opens flat to 180 degrees and stays that way – without needing to hold the pages open.
  • One page per day format: The Hobonichi Techo HON is a compact daily planner with one page per day and integrated hardcover design. The 3.7mm dot grid offers maximum freedom for writing, sketches and layouts.
  • Two bookmark ribbons make it easy to quickly find frequently used pages.
  • Rounded corners: Page corners are rounded to minimise creasing and damage when carrying in a bag or rucksack.
  • Annual calendar, monthly overviews and bonus pages complement the daily entries: Includes annual calendar 2026–2028, monthly overview December 2026 to March 2028, and numerous bonus pages such as Time Table, Graph Paper, My 100, 365-Days-Check-Off-Sheet and more.
  • Glossy cover (PP coated): The smooth, slightly glossy surface protects the cover design and gives the book a silky, cool feel in hand.

Use & Tips

  • Fountain pens and fine-liners: Tomoe River paper is renowned for its ink compatibility – nibs of every width, from fine EF to broad stub nibs, glide smoothly across the surface. Inks display vibrant colours, shading and sheen effects particularly well on the thin paper.
  • Caution with quick-drying refills: Those using ballpoints or quick-drying gel refills work best with the included pencil board, which serves as an underlay protection between pages and prevents bleed-through.
  • Watercolour washes and brush pens: Tomoe River paper absorbs moisture but remains remarkably stable – ideal for light watercolour washes or brush lettering on daily pages; with intensive wet application, an underlay is recommended.
  • Calligraphy experiments: The smooth surface allows precise nib control and clean letterforms – perfect for Copperplate practice or brief calligraphic notes directly in the daily planner.
  • The design as a mood anchor: It captures a moment as the moon grows full – one you wish would never end, with a familiar voice at the other end of the line. The cover invites you to see the planner as a personal diary object.
  • Add a protective cover: For the A6 HON, there is a separately available transparent clear cover that keeps the book design visible while protecting against scratches and dirt.

For Hobonichi Enthusiasts

Hiroko Kubota's illustrative style moves somewhere between dream and diagram. Scenes like a cat and wolf on a tin-can telephone or a meteor shower of glowing fish – her images are full of stories and humour you happily lose yourself in. For 2027, Kubota graces both HON editions with "String Telephone Until the Moon is Full", creating a world that extends across front and back covers. The Japanese edition of this HON follows the familiar Hobonichi Techo original format inside – one page per day, 3.7mm dot grid, Japanese calendar – whilst the revised Tomoe River paper since 2024 boasts improved show-through resistance, lighter weight at the same thickness, and a smoother surface thanks to adjusted fibre structure. The interplay of slim bookblock, thread binding and flexible hardcover construction makes the A6 HON a planner that feels like a beloved book – and looks just as good sitting on a shelf after a year of use.
