Hobonichi Pencil Board Tamagotchi: 90’s Tamagotchi (Weeks)
The Hobonichi Writing Pad Tamagotchi: 90's Tamagotchi (Weeks) is a collaboration edition between Hobonichi and the digital cult creature Tamagotchi, which took the world by storm in 1996. The firm, slightly smooth synthetic paper surface (Yupo) with a matte PP coating feels pleasant in your hand and gives the thin Tomoe River paper of the Weeks Techo exactly the support it needs when writing. Front: a jumble of stickers from early 90s Tamagotchi characters, scattered wildly across the surface. Back: green background with scenes from Tarakotchi's daily life – and hidden somewhere within is Techotchi, Hobonichi's own techo-shaped Tamagotchi character with a pink beak.
Features
- Synthetic paper (Yupo) with matte PP surface: Slightly textured, yet smooth enough that ballpoints and fine-tip pens glide evenly without slipping. The firm thickness of 0.4 mm provides backing for the page and prevents writing pressure from creating impressions on the page below.
- Perfectly sized for Weeks format (187 × 88 mm): Precisely matched to the page width of the Hobonichi Weeks Techo – no overhang, no shifting when turning pages.
- Millimetre scale along the long edge: The back features 1 mm divisions along the length, so the board doubles as a ruler – handy for measuring column widths or spacing in your planner.
- "Today" tab: The tab in the upper corner extends beyond the page edge and marks the current week – works reliably as a bookmark without sticky tape or sticky notes.
- Two-sided design: Front with collage-like 90s sticker motif, back with green background and Tarakotchi scenes – two distinct illustrations in one accessory.
- Hidden Techotchi: Embedded in the design is Techotchi, Hobonichi's techo-shaped Tamagotchi character with a pink beak and geometric feet – a detail for observant eyes.
Use & Tips
- Writing pad for ballpoint use: Oil-based ballpoint pens benefit particularly from the firm backing – the line becomes more even, writing pressure distributes better.
- Protection with fountain pen ink: The Tomoe River paper in the Weeks is thin and can bleed through easily with much ink or flex nibs. The board placed under the written page prevents impressions on the reverse.
- Ruler for page layout: If you create your own columns, trackers or boxes in your Weeks planner, use the mm scale on the edge for quick measuring – no extra tools needed.
- Bookmark function: Slide the "Today" tab between the current spread – the board moves along automatically and shows the current week, even when the planner is closed.
- Combination with matching Techo cover: The board harmonises visually with the Hobonichi Weeks Tamagotchi cover and the accompanying Tamagotchi Weeks book.
For Techo Enthusiasts
The Weeks board is made from Yupo, a water-resistant synthetic paper based on polypropylene that neither tears nor warps with moisture. The matte PP surface coating reduces glare and gives ballpoints and fine-tip pens a defined grip – enough resistance for controlled strokes, no catching of the nib. Yupo is also wipeable, so the board can be wiped clean after extended use. At 7 g, it's so light that it barely affects the overall weight of your Techo.
