Hobonichi Cover Leather: TS Basic - Black (A6)

The Hobonichi Cover Leather: TS Basic – Black is a leather case for the Hobonichi Techo in A6 format, created in collaboration with graphic designer Taku Satoh, who is responsible for the design direction of the Hobonichi Techo – "TS" stands for his initials. The cowhide is processed on the outside as well as inside: smooth, matte, and soft enough from the start to feel naturally comfortable in your hand immediately. The case closes via a so-called butterfly stopper pen holder – a mechanism that combines pen and closure in one.

Features

• Butterfly stopper pen holder: Two leather loops on the left and right sides of the cover hold a pen and simultaneously close the case. No additional rubber band, no snap button – the pen takes on this task.
• Smooth, matte cowhide outside and inside: The surface is dense enough to slowly develop patina over time, and soft enough to feel pleasant without a break-in period. The leather is minimally treated to preserve its natural texture – scars, veins, and minor irregularities are part of the material, not defects.
• Polyester lining inside: Provides structural stability to the case and protects the inserted Techo book from direct leather contact – relevant because natural cowhide can leave color marks on paper over time.
• Multiple interior pockets: Various formats – from business card size to postcard – allow you to carry loose cards, note slips, or small documents directly on your planner.
• Two bookmark ribbons: With geometric pendants (rectangle and triangle) to mark two places simultaneously – such as the monthly overview and the current daily page.
• Natural leather character: Each case is a unique piece. Creases, color variations, and grain patterns emerge from the living material and continue to develop with use.

Application & Tips

• Compatible with all Hobonichi Techo books in A6 format (Original, Planner) – the book itself is not included in the delivery.
• The butterfly stopper pen holder is designed for pens up to 13.5 mm in diameter. Slim fountain pens, fine-liners, or ballpoint pens with round cross-sections fit easily; pens with irregular shapes or wide clips may be difficult to use.
• Natural leather reacts to moisture and heat. Do not store the case permanently under other items and avoid direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent color shifts and shape changes.
• Friction and sustained contact can cause color marking on light-colored fabrics or other leather surfaces – especially in the first weeks of use.
• A cover-on-cover made of PVC is not recommended with this leather case: Plasticizers from PVC materials can react with the leather dye and permanently alter the surface.

The TS Basic – Black has been a permanent fixture in the Hobonichi range for over ten years and is considered a reference point for the brand's leather lineup. Taku Satoh, who is responsible for the overall design of the Hobonichi Techo, has designed a case here without decorative additions: no logo on the outside, no decorative stitching, no embossing. Quality is shown exclusively in the material and functionality of the details. The leather is tanned and dyed in such a way that the natural cowhide grain is preserved – which means that the surface changes with regular hand contact over months and develops its own patina.
