Sonnenleder bank bag "Weill" black
The Sonnenleder "Weill" bank pouch is a slim leather bag made from vegetable-tanned beef leather – crafted and tanned by hand in Germany. The black leather has a matt, firm surface with a noticeable grain: sturdy to the touch, subtly textured under your fingers. The format fits A5 documents perfectly and closes securely with a zip.
Features
- Vegetable-tanned beef leather, processed in Germany: The leather is made without synthetic tanning chemicals – using natural tannins from bark, roots and fruits. The result is a dense, firm material with a natural surface that reacts to moisture and skin contact.
- Hand-crafted construction: Every piece is hand-cut and assembled. This means cleanly finished edges, even stitching – no industrial uniformity.
- Patina, not ageing: Black vegetable-tanned leather develops its own depth over time: the surface becomes more supple, high-contact areas gain a gentle sheen. Signs of use are part of the material's character – they show that the leather breathes and lives.
- A5 format, zip closure: The main compartment holds documents up to A5 (24.5 × 16.5 cm) and closes with a zip that prevents accidental opening whether the pouch is in a bag or rucksack.
Use & Tips
- As a bank pouch or document case: Perfect for bank statements, contracts or correspondence in A5 format – organised and at hand, without creased pages.
- As a slim everyday pouch: Business cards, travel documents, train tickets, a small notebook (up to A5) – everything in one place, securely closed, easy to slip into a jacket or bag.
- Leather care: Vegetable-tanned leather is sensitive to heavy moisture. Occasional treatment with a colourless, natural leather care product keeps the material supple and encourages patina development.
- Break-in period: New vegetable-tanned leather is initially somewhat stiff. With regular use it becomes softer and adapts – without losing its firmness.
For Leather Enthusiasts
Sonnenleder works according to the pit-tanning method: hides pass through several pits with progressively concentrated tanning liquor, a process that takes several weeks. The result is leather with particularly dense fibres that, unlike chrome-tanned material, does not behave uniformly – each piece reacts individually to light, moisture and touch. With black finishes, the colour penetration is generally stable; subtle variations in brightness caused by friction and light are a sign of open-pore, unsealed surface – not a flaw, but the character of the material.
