Sonnenleder wallet "Sinn" natural
The 'Sinn' wallet by Sonnenleder is crafted from Southern German cattle leather, vegetable-tanned in Germany and hand-worked throughout. Its natural colour displays the characteristic light brown-reddish tone of undyed, vegetable-tanned leather – a living material that develops its own unique patina over time. At 110 × 90 × 30 mm, it offers compact exterior dimensions whilst providing remarkably generous interior organisation.
Features
- Vegetable pit-tanning from Germany: Traditional tanning agents from barks, roots and fruits penetrate the leather slowly and deeply – the result is a firm, shape-stable surface that feels warm and alive, becoming more beautiful with each year rather than wearing thin.
- Natural colour, undyed: The leather reveals its raw, authentic tone. Contact points such as thumb pad or back of hand leave behind a distinctive light-to-dark patina over time – each wallet develops its own unique character.
- 2 coin compartments with zip: Coins stay safe and separate – no jingling, nothing falls out when you open it. Two separate compartments let you divide frequently used coins from your reserve.
- 2 banknote compartments: Notes can be organised separately, perhaps by currency or purpose – practical for travelling or switching daily between spending money and tips.
- 6 credit card slots: Plenty of space for debit cards, credit cards, loyalty cards and travel passes – without unnecessarily bulking out the wallet.
- 2 slip pockets with press stud: Flat when closed, quick to open. Perfect for ID cards, business cards or receipts you want to keep to hand.
- Hand-crafted in Germany: Every wallet is made by hand in our manufactory – seams, edges and fastenings are set and inspected individually.
- Polished metal zips and press stud: Sturdy, positive-closing metal from Germany – no snagging, no play.
Use & Tips
- Break it in: Fresh from the manufactory, the leather is still firm. With regular use it softens and adapts to your grip – the wallet becomes more supple without losing its structure.
- Leather care: Vegetable-tanned leather responds gratefully to pure leather fat or beeswax care – once or twice a year is enough to keep the surface supple and protected.
- Avoid moisture: Occasional rain does little harm, but prolonged dampness can soften naturally tanned leather. After contact with significant water, allow to dry slowly at room temperature, not near a radiator.
- Distribute cards sensibly: The six credit card slots and two slip pockets can be allocated by frequency of use – frequently used cards in the front slots, rarely used ones towards the back.
- As a travel wallet: Two separate banknote compartments work well for daily use in two currencies or for dividing your budget and emergency funds when travelling.
For Leather Enthusiasts
The cattle leather used for the 'Sinn' comes from Southern Germany and is processed using traditional pit-tanning – one of the oldest and most time-consuming leather production methods, in which hides rest for months in vegetable tanning liquors. Unlike fast chrome-tanning, pit-tanning produces leather that is evenly tanned throughout its full thickness: shape-stable, warm and grippy to the hand, breathable and able to temporarily absorb and release moisture. The undyed natural leather displays all the skin's natural structural characteristics – pores, fine scars, subtle colour variations – and is considered by leather connoisseurs to be a particularly authentic execution. Patination is especially pronounced with this tanning method: contact areas darken noticeably, whilst less-handled surfaces retain their light, warm base tone.
