The Robinson Pencil Case M in the "Indigo Night Clouds" design is crafted from Kurume Kasuri cotton fabric – a traditional Japanese woven textile where threads are dyed indigo before weaving. The result is not a printed pattern, but a woven one: the soft transitions between dark blue and white are created through resist-dyeing techniques and are a direct hallmark of the manufacturing process. With a zip closure and an interior that accommodates fountain pens, fineliner pens and pencils in size M, the case combines textile craftsmanship with functional stationery accessories.

• Kurume Kasuri woven fabric: The threads are partially dyed and bound with indigo before weaving, creating a characteristic, gently blurred pattern – not printed or applied, but a textile structure that is also evident to the touch: slightly rough, warmly textured surface.
• Indigo dye "Night Clouds": The indigo blue with soft, cloud-like tonal gradations is created through resist-binding of individual thread sections. Each case varies slightly – no two are exactly identical in colour.

Use & Tips

• For fountain pens up to approximately 15 cm long: The M format comfortably fits common piston and cartridge fountain pens without the nibs rubbing against the seam. Ink bottles don't belong in the pouch – the indigo dye won't survive ink stains without visible marks.
• Recommendation for stub nibs and calligraphy sets: Those working with stub or parallel nibs can fit several pens plus a folded cleaning cloth corner – the format provides enough space.
• Care: Wash cold and separately from whites – indigo dyes may bleed slightly on first wash. No fabric softener, do not tumble dry.
• As a travel organiser: Cables, adapters or small tools like screwdrivers for nib mechanisms can be stored just as easily as pens – the zip closure keeps everything secure.
• Paired with a flat notebook: The case lies flat on the outer pocket of many notebooks and planner covers without bulging – indigo blue harmonises beautifully with natural paper and muted leather tones.

Kurume Kasuri has been recognised in Japan as an intangible cultural property since 1957. The technique uses resist-binding before dyeing: thread sections are bound before the thread is immersed in indigo – the bound areas do not absorb colour and later form the light portions of the pattern. In three-dimensional Tate-Yoko-Kasuri, both warp and weft threads are pre-dyed; the precise alignment during weaving determines whether the pattern elements align exactly or appear slightly offset – this minimal offset is a sign of handcrafted production, not a flaw. The indigo dyeing occurs in a multi-stage immersion process: the thread is repeatedly dipped in indigo vat, wrung out and oxidised in air until the desired colour depth is achieved. Cotton dyed this way deepens slightly with each wash – the case will noticeably change over months of use.
