Kaweco Fountain Pen Sport navy
The Kaweco Sport is a pocket fountain pen in the octagonal design of the 1930s – compact enough for shirt and trouser pockets, yet long enough with the cap posted for relaxed writing. The ABS plastic body is lightweight, and the deep navy blue is a classic colour from the range's colour history. The gold-plated steel nib with iridium tip writes smoothly and is available in three nib sizes: F (fine), M (medium) and B (broad).
Features
- Octagonal ABS plastic barrel: The eight edges give the fountain pen a secure grip in the hand – it sits comfortably and won't rotate whilst writing. The body is very lightweight and won't tire the writer even during extended use.
- Gold-plated steel nib with iridium tip: The gold plating is not only visually pleasing but protects the nib permanently against corrosion. The iridium tip ensures even ink flow and has minimal flex when writing – pleasant for those who appreciate feedback from the nib.
- Three nib sizes – F, M and B: The F nib produces a fine, precise line and is recommended for small handwriting and narrow-ruled notebooks. M is the most versatile choice for everyday writing and longer texts. B writes broad and soft – ideal for expansive handwriting and rich ink colours.
- Compact format with posting function: Closed, the Sport measures just 10.5 cm – the cap reliably protects the nib with an offset screw cap. Posted, it extends to 13.5 cm, allowing for a relaxed writing posture.
- Compatible with standard cartridges, converter compatible: The fountain pen accepts standard short and long cartridges. For those who wish to fill from glass bottles, a Kaweco mini converter can be used – opening up the full spectrum of fountain pen inks.
- Manufactured and assembled in Germany: Body, nib and assembly are produced in Nuremberg – the nibs are individually manufactured and inspected there in Germany.
Use & Tips
- F nib on smooth paper: The fine nib shows its best handwriting on smooth, calendered paper – the stroke edges remain sharp, shading becomes visible. On rough paper it can catch easily; here M is the less fussy choice.
- B nib width for ink nuances: Those writing with water-based fountain pen ink in rich colours benefit from the B nib: the broader line lets shading and shimmer inks stand out particularly well.
- On the go and in jacket pockets: The screw cap keeps the lid secure even when moving – no accidental opening in rucksacks or bags. Particularly practical for notebook users who carry their fountain pen loose in their pocket.
- Converter instead of cartridge: With a Kaweco mini converter, the Sport can be filled directly from ink bottles. This is especially worthwhile if a particular ink is only available in bottle size or you frequently change colours.
- Change the section instead of buying a new pen: The Kaweco modular principle allows you to swap the section including nib – if you want to change nib size, you can purchase the section separately without needing to buy a new fountain pen.
For Calligraphy and Lettering Enthusiasts
The Classic Sport section is compatible with Kaweco calligraphy nib units available in widths from 1.1 to 2.3 mm. This allows the same barrel to be used both as an everyday fountain pen and as a practice tool for letterforms. The gold-plated steel nib in F size responds to light pressure changes – not flex, but enough precision to execute fine upstrokes and downstrokes in modern scripts cleanly. For water-resistant applications (e.g. watercolour underpainting), a pigmented, fountain-pen-suitable ink should be chosen – conventional coloured inks or acrylic liners are not suitable for this fountain pen as they can clog the ink channel.
