LUIBAN Quality Control: Every nib on this model is hand-checked in our workshop for ink flow and smooth writing, and adjusted if necessary. Test strip included.

The Kaweco Sport Ebonite is a pocket fountain pen made from hard rubber – a material that boasts a history of well over a century in the writing instruments world, long predating modern plastics. Ebonite is created from natural rubber and sulphur, is entirely of natural origin, and features a high-gloss polished, marbled surface that gives each piece its own unique pattern. This limited edition set pairs the fountain pen with a gold-coloured nostalgic clip and a complete 10-pack of Kaweco ink cartridges in all available colours.

Features

  • Ebonite body made from natural rubber and sulphur: The material lives and breathes – the sulphur content creates an individual colour development over time, making each fountain pen unique. The original state can be restored at any time by simply polishing with a soft cloth.
  • Hand-polished high-gloss surface with marbling: The warm brown grain recalls fine hardwood; the polished surface feels cool and smooth to the touch, yet warms quickly in your hand. No two examples are alike.
  • Elaborate hand-engraved detail: The engraving is executed by hand and emphasises the craftsmanship of the barrel.
  • Gold-plated steel nib, made in Germany: The nib is stainless steel and gold-plated. Available in nib sizes F, M and B. Kaweco recommends the M size for beginners, offering consistent ink flow.
  • Compact post design: Closed, the fountain pen measures 106 mm – perfectly pocket-sized. With the cap posted towards the back, it extends to approximately 135 mm and remains well-balanced in hand, even during extended writing sessions.
  • Gold-coloured nostalgic clip in the set: The clip sits on the cap and allows secure attachment to a notebook cover, shirt collar or jacket pocket. The gold colour continues the historical character of the ebonite.
  • 10-pack of Kaweco ink cartridges included: All ten colours from the Kaweco cartridge range are included, plus a pre-installed Royal Blue cartridge. Compatible with standard short cartridges and the Kaweco Mini Converter for bottled ink.
  • Historically inspired packaging: The box is designed in the style of cardboard packaging from over a century ago.

Use & Tips

  • Changing ink cartridges: The ten supplied cartridges are ideal for directly comparing different colours – from vibrant Royal Blue to brilliant Red. Those wishing to use their own bottled fountain pen inks should use the Kaweco Mini Converter.
  • Fine nib (F) for everyday use: The fine nib is particularly well-suited to narrowly ruled notebooks and small handwriting. On smooth, calendered paper it writes especially cleanly and reveals the ink's shading more clearly than on woodfree copy paper.
  • Caring for your ebonite: Prolonged direct sunlight can dull the surface. A soft cotton cloth and a little gentle pressure are all that's needed to restore the shine. The patina that develops through the sulphur content can be carefully controlled or preserved as desired.
  • Post method for longer writing sessions: The cap is posted on the back end while writing, not removed – this creates a better weight balance and the pen sits more securely in your hand.
  • Clip assembly: The gold-coloured clip can be attached to and removed from the cap. For transport in your notebook, it protects the pen from slipping and also shields the polished surface from scratches caused by contact with sharp edges.

For Ebonite Enthusiasts

Ebonite was developed in the 19th century as an insulating material and eventually found its way into instrument making before becoming widely used in writing instruments. The vulcanisation of natural rubber with sulphur creates a thermoplastically stable material with a gently warming quality – unlike acrylic or celluloid, ebonite responds to body heat with a subtly warmer feel in hand. The individual marbling is created by the distribution of sulphur compounds in the blank; no pressing process produces identical patterns. The fact that the sulphur content continues to react even after processing – with light, air and skin oils – makes ebonite fountain pens living objects: the surface develops a patina over months and years that reflects the character of individual use. Those who understand this process appreciate it as part of the material; those who prefer the original state simply polish it back.
