The LAMY AL-star pine is the Special Edition 2026 of the AL-star series – a fountain pen crafted from colour-anodised aluminium in rich forest green, a shade that balances woodland tranquillity with cool precision. The barrel is light yet noticeably stable in hand, whilst the semi-transparent plastic grip in matching green tone makes ink flow directly visible. Made in Germany, available in nib sizes EF, F and M.

Features

  • Pine green, anodised aluminium: The barrel is made from colour-anodised aluminium – lightweight, scratch-resistant and pleasantly cool to hold. The matt surface resists fingerprints and retains its colour even after extended use.
  • Semi-transparent grip section: The grip area features transparent plastic in matching green tone, offering a direct view of the ink feed – so ink levels are visible at a glance. The triangular grip shape positions thumb, index and middle finger naturally, without constraint.
  • Stainless steel nib (LAMY Z50): The polished steel nib writes smoothly and silently across paper. The EF and F nib sizes are particularly suited to fine-line writing on smooth, calendered paper; the M nib delivers fuller strokes and flows smoothly even on slightly textured surfaces.
  • Interchangeable nib: The Z50 nibs can be swapped tool-free – simply pull out the old nib and insert the new one if you wish to change nib size or replace a worn nib.
  • Self-springing metal clip: The metal clip holds securely to notebook covers, shirt pockets and pen cases – and springs back without losing its grip.
  • Cartridge/converter system: The set includes a LAMY T10 ink cartridge in blue. For use with bottled ink, the LAMY Z28 converter is compatible (sold separately).
  • Special Edition 2026: Pine appears as the year's limited colour – not a permanent model in the AL-star range.

Use & Tips

  • Choosing nib size: EF and F are ideal for small handwriting, tight line spacing in planners or precise marginal notes. M suits relaxed, fluent everyday writing and delivers reliable letterforms even on less smooth paper.
  • Ink compatibility: The included LAMY T10 cartridge (blue, non-archival) makes the fountain pen ready to use immediately. If switching to archival or pigmented inks, use only liquids suitable for fountain pens – and rinse the pen thoroughly with lukewarm water first.
  • Using a converter: With the LAMY Z28 converter (sold separately), you can use any bottled fountain pen ink. The Z28 locks firmly into the barrel and prevents accidental detachment.
  • Paper recommendation: On smooth, ink-fast paper, the steel nib delivers its finest writing – even stroke edges, minimal drying time, no bleed-through. On wood-fibre paper, wet inks may feather slightly.
  • Grip zone and extended writing: The triangular grip zone guides your hand into a relaxed writing posture. The light weight of the aluminium barrel (approx. 22 g) becomes noticeable benefit during long writing sessions.
  • Care: LAMY recommends emptying the fountain pen and rinsing with lukewarm water if left unused for extended periods – this is especially important with strongly staining or pigmented inks.

For Fountain Pen Enthusiasts

The LAMY Z50 nib is available separately in black or silver and swaps in seconds – a clear advantage over threaded nibs that require tools. If you use the AL-star as an entry point to different nib sizes, a single barrel lets you switch between EF, F, M, B and even left-handed nibs (LH). The Z50 nib range is also available in calligraphic versions (1.1 mm / 1.5 mm / 1.9 mm), so the same barrel can be used for your first calligraphic experiments. Lamy tests every nib before dispatch using blue ink – minimal ink residue in the feed area is a sign of factory quality control and not a defect.
