TWSBI Fountain Pen Precision Gun Metal F
The TWSBI Precision piston filler in Gunmetal is an aluminum filler with an integrated piston mechanism – designed as part of the Precision family alongside mechanical pencil and ballpoint pen. The barrel and grip section are made of aluminum with stainless steel accents; the diamond-cut barrel gives the pen a secure grip with a slightly textured surface and prevents it from rolling off the desk. The polished steel nib bears an engraved TWSBI logo and is available in nib sizes EF, F, M, B, and 1.1.
Features
- Piston mechanism with extremely smooth operation: Filling directly from the ink bottle is accomplished with just a few turn movements; the ink capacity is larger than with converter or cartridge systems.
- Diamond-cut aluminum barrel: The faceted surface sits securely in the hand and ensures that the pen remains on the desk without its cap without rolling away.
- Rubber ring on cap thread: Reliably seals the cap – the ink does not dry in the grip section, even if the pen is left unused for extended periods.
- Polished steel nib: Spring steel with controlled elasticity; suitable for fluid everyday inks as well as for pigmented and iron gall ink-compliant fountain pen inks – as long as they are approved for piston fillers.
- Stainless steel ferrule and pocket clip: The clip sits firmly, grips through thicker fabric or leather layers, and contributes to the sleek, technical appearance of the pen.
- Five nib sizes: EF, F, M, B, and 1.1 (broad nib) – the 1.1 broad nib is particularly suitable for italic script and simple calligraphic work.
Application & Tips
- Filling: Turn the piston completely back, fully immerse the nib in the ink, and slowly pull the piston up. A second stroke after briefly pushing back increases the amount of ink drawn in.
- Ink choice for F and EF: With fine nibs, free-flowing, thin inks run most smoothly. Very wet, heavily writing inks can feather on absorbent paper.
- Ink choice for B and 1.1: The 1.1 broad nib shows stroke variation and edge character particularly clearly – color-intensive inks with good shading behavior shine here.
- Paper: On smooth, calendered paper, the polished steel nib glides particularly smoothly. On rough paper, the nib can catch slightly – here an M or B size is recommended.
- Cleaning: When changing inks, rinse the piston several times with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Flush pigmented inks completely before drawing in another ink.
- Extended non-use: Empty the pen and store it cleaned. The rubber ring does protect against evaporation, but with extended breaks, complete emptying is recommended.
- Not compatible with ink cartridges: The Precision Gunmetal uses exclusively the integrated piston mechanism – no cartridge or converter connection provided.
For Pen Enthusiasts
The aluminum barrel concept of the Precision line positions the pen between light resin fillers and heavier brass pens. The result is a fountain pen that tires little even during long writing sessions – especially with the cap attached to the end, which shifts the weight toward the back and balances the weight. The 1.1 broad nib is factory-supplied with defined edge geometry; those who wish to use it for Copperplate or pointed pen calligraphy should choose a different nib type – for Italic, Foundational Hand, or decorative everyday scripts, it is ready to use immediately. TWSBI manufactures this pen in Taiwan.
