YStudio Classic Revolve Desk Fountain Pen (F)
The Ystudio Classic Revolve Deskpen is a desk fountain pen made of solid copper – without surface coating, untreated, designed to develop patina. The copper pen shaft sits in a stand base made of solid brass, whose weight of 372 grams doesn't slip on the desk. The nib comes from Schmidt in Germany; the fountain pen takes European standard cartridges or a converter. The "Weight of Words" series embodies the philosophy that writing instruments should be made from honest materials and change visibly, tangibly, and permanently with use.
Special Features
- Copper pen shaft without surface sealing: The copper surface is intentionally untreated. The warmth of your hand, humidity, and ink leave visible marks on the surface over months – each pen develops its own individual, characteristic patina. The oxidation is non-toxic; the original shine can be restored at any time with metal polish.
- Stand base made of solid brass: The heavy brass base keeps the fountain pen upright and doesn't tip over when you pick it up. Inside the stand base is a plastic cover over the nib that prevents ink from drying in the fountain pen nib.
- Schmidt writing nib (Germany): Gold-coated stainless steel nib in nib size F – precise in line quality, robust in everyday use, resharpenable. Schmidt nibs are a proven workshop nib in Europe for reliable ink flow.
- Converter-compatible: The fountain pen takes European standard cartridges. With a converter, you can use any fountain pen ink from a bottle – water-based inks with medium viscosity flow particularly smoothly.
- Packaging made of sycamore maple: The deskpen comes in a box made of light sycamore maple wood – robust protection, suitable for permanent storage of the set.
Application & Tips
- Ink selection: The Schmidt nib manufacturer recommends inks with medium viscosity for smooth ink flow. Very water-poor or heavily pigmented inks can slow down the feed – classic water-based fountain pen inks work reliably.
- Patina care: Copper oxidizes over time and becomes brownish-dark. If you want to preserve the original red tone, wipe the shaft regularly with copper or metal polish. If you appreciate the patina, simply let it grow – the result after a few months is a warm, deep reddish-brown.
- Stationary operation: Since the deskpen has no cap, the stand base is where you store it between writing sessions. The plastic insert in the base keeps the nib moist, so the fountain pen writes immediately again after a short break.
- Writing styles and scripts: The F nib is suitable for finer handwriting, tight line spacing, and longer flowing texts. If you write larger, more expansive letters or want wider line variation, choose the M variant.
- As a gift: The sycamore maple box is sturdy enough for shipping and elegant enough to serve directly as a presentation – no additional gift wrapping needed.
For Fountain Pen Enthusiasts
Ystudio manufactures in Taiwan, embedded in local metalwork craft traditions. Copper and brass are processed without galvanic coating or lacquer sealing – raw materials that interact directly with the environment. The writing nib is housed in a Schmidt system that corresponds to European standard cartridges, making it seamlessly compatible with converters and a wide selection of short and long cartridges. Because the stand base carries nearly the entire total weight of 372 g (the pen shaft itself weighs about 38 g), the fountain pen feels lighter in the hand while writing than the total weight would suggest – a pleasantly relaxed writing feel typical of deskpens.
