Ystudio Fountain Pen Classic Revolve brass
The Ystudio Classic Revolve is a fountain pen crafted from solid brass with a hexagonal barrel – shaped in Taiwan from raw material that develops its own character with every use. The matte lacquered finish sits cool and firm in the hand, while six finely polished lengthwise edges break through the surface as gleaming gold brass lines. At 46 grammes, it feels substantially weighty – not burdensome, but grounded, with a centre of gravity that supports your writing. For the first time, this fountain pen features a nib designed by Ystudio itself.
Features
- Ystudio's own nib in gold-plated stainless steel: The nib is embossed with Ystudio's founding logo – the brand's first logo from its early days. The barrel bears the 10th anniversary logo. Two logos, one nib: past and present in a single writing instrument.
- Solid hexagonal brass barrel: The hexagonal cross-section in brass prevents rolling and sits securely between your fingers. The wall thickness is precisely dimensioned so that weight and grip remain balanced – without fatigue during extended writing sessions.
- Matte lacquered finish with gold brass edges: The flat matte lacquer absorbs fingerprints and gives the pen a calm, understated presence. The polished edges gleam warmly by contrast – a deliberate contrast that emphasises the hexagonal geometry.
- Living material – the brassing effect: Brass oxidises and changes over time. The lacquer wears away at the edges and grip zone, revealing bare brass. This process is intentional: each pen develops a unique patina that reflects its owner's use. Sandpaper is included so you can actively accelerate this effect.
- Snap cap, no threads: The cap snaps on with a satisfying click – quick to remove, securely closed. The cap is not postable, keeping the centre of gravity compact during writing.
- Converter system (International Standard): A standard converter is already included. You can refill directly from bottled ink; International Standard cartridges also fit.
- Available nib sizes: F (fine) and M (medium) – for precise, delicate writing as well as for richer, broader letterforms.
Use & Tips
- Ink choice: Ystudio recommends inks of medium viscosity – neither too watery nor too thick. Classical fountain pen inks on a water base are ideal. Heavily pigmented or shimmering inks with particles (shimmer, sheening) should be used sparingly, as they place greater stress on the converter and ink channel. The nib is not archival-quality.
- Fine nib: Produces a fine, defined line – ideal for narrow-ruled notebooks, small handwriting, and anyone wanting to use ink sparingly. Particularly beautiful on smooth, calendered paper, where the nib glides without resistance.
- Medium nib: Broader line, more ink flow – for generous handwriting, journalling, or papers with higher absorbency. Allows ink nuances such as shading to shine through.
- Breaking in the nib: New Ystudio nibs may feel slightly scratchy during the first refills. After writing with a few millilitres of ink, the nib noticeably smooths out.
- Patina development: The included sandpaper allows you to selectively remove lacquer at chosen spots and expose bare brass. Brass oxidation is harmless and can be reversed at any time with brass polish.
- Care: The converter should be rinsed out if the pen is unused for extended periods. The barrel can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth; avoid aggressive cleaners on the lacquered surface.
For Fountain Pen Enthusiasts
The Classic Revolve is manufactured in Taiwan – Ystudio works with local workshops where brass and copper are processed using traditional methods. The nib design comes entirely from in-house for the first time: the gold-plated stainless steel nib was developed and crafted by Ystudio, not sourced from a third-party manufacturer. The fountain pen accepts International Standard cartridges and converters, making it compatible with a wide range of inks. At 46 grammes, it sits firmly in the heavyweight category – comparable to solid metal fountain pens, where weight actively aids writing control and reduces pressure on the nib. Anyone who writes with a light touch will benefit particularly.
