Ystudio Fountain Pen Classic Revolve blue
The Ystudio Classic Revolve in blue is a fountain pen crafted from solid brass with a matte blue lacquer finish – an anniversary piece celebrating Ystudio's 10th year and the company's first fountain pen featuring an in-house Ystudio nib. The hexagonal body weighs a substantial 46 grams and sits cool and present in the hand, with six facets polished to narrow, gleaming gold-brass lines that contrast sharply against the matte lacquer. The nib is crafted from gold-plated stainless steel and bears the brand's original logo from its founding years, whilst the body carries the new anniversary logo – a deliberate bridge between the company's beginnings and today. Available in nib sizes F (fine) and M (medium).
Features
- Ystudio in-house nib in gold-plated stainless steel: The nib was developed specifically for the Classic Revolve series and engraved with Ystudio's original logo from the founding era. Gold-plated stainless steel gives the nib effortless glide across paper and a satisfying spring – firm enough for consistent lines, supple enough for extended writing sessions.
- Hexagonal brass body with substance: 46 grams of solid brass make the fountain pen substantial, slowing your writing and making it more deliberate. The hexagonal cross-section prevents the pen from rolling across the desk and provides your hand with three natural resting points.
- Matte blue lacquer with polished gold edges: The six facets of the body are burnished smooth – golden brass breaking through the matte blue lacquer. The colour combination is understated and precise: no gloss on the surfaces, full gloss on the edges.
- Brassing effect – a living surface: As you use the pen daily, the blue lacquer gradually wears away at the grip points, revealing the warm brass beneath. Each fountain pen develops its own pattern, a visible record of your personal writing history. The included sandpaper allows you to shape this process intentionally.
- Snap cap: The closure clicks firmly into place – secure hold, quick to open.
- International standard converter included: Compatible with European standard cartridges and all fountain pen inks in standard format. The included converter lets you start using bottled inks immediately.
Use & Tips
- Nib size F suits fine handwriting on smooth, calendered paper – the letterforms remain precise and without feathering. For fountain pen inks with medium viscosity, this size is particularly recommended for smaller handwriting or narrow-ruled notebooks.
- Nib size M delivers greater ink flow and a broader line – richer colour saturation, stronger contrast, more interplay between hairline and main stroke with gentle pressure variation. Ideal for bottled inks with shading effects.
- Inks with medium consistency flow especially evenly through the Ystudio nib. Very watery inks can bleed on absorbent paper – on smooth, ink-resistant paper even a fluid ink will write cleanly.
- The fountain pen is designed for use with standard fountain pen inks. Non-permanent pigmented inks or heavily pigmented specialty inks should not be used as they may clog the converter and feed system.
- If you'd like to control the brassing effect yourself: use the included sandpaper on the grip areas and gradually expose the brass. The result is individual and irreversible – proceed thoughtfully.
- The 46-gram body rests comfortably on a writing pad; as a posted pen (cap on), the weight increases to a level that some may find too heavy. Recommendation: write with the cap off.
For Fountain Pen Enthusiasts
The nib of the Classic Revolve is crafted from gold-plated stainless steel – a material choice that combines corrosion resistance with consistent ink flow. Gold plating on stainless steel noticeably reduces the coefficient of friction on paper compared to bare steel. The nib is installed to international standard specifications and is theoretically interchangeable with other standard #6-format nibs, though Ystudio designates the assembly as its own system. The brass body (copper-zinc alloy with copper content) oxidises on contact with air and hand perspiration: the blue lacquer coating slows this process, and where it wears away, natural patination begins. The fountain pen is compatible with the International Standard Converter – any standard-format converter works, as do European short cartridges and long cartridges.
