YStudio spring ballpoint pen Classic Revolve
The Ystudio Classic Revolve is a ballpoint pen with a hexagonal body crafted from brass, copper and phosphor bronze – materials deliberately chosen for their durability and vibrant surface character. The twist mechanism sits precisely and operates silently; the weight of the body feels substantial in hand. Without surface sealing, the brass develops a unique patina over time, making every pen one of a kind.
Features
- Twist mechanism (Revolve): The refill extends and retracts by twisting the barrel – no clip-click, but a quiet, deliberate motion that invites you to write.
- Brass, copper and phosphor bronze: The combination of three metal alloys provides balanced weight and a pleasant coolness to the touch. Phosphor bronze handles precise spring elements in the internal mechanism; copper provides visual accents at the ends.
- Living surface without sealing: The bare brass oxidises with use, changing colour and texture – darker areas at grip zones, warmer gold tones on less-used surfaces. If you wish, polish the pen back to a high shine; if you prefer, let the wear marks remain.
- Schmidt P900 M – archival-quality ballpoint refill: The supplied large-capacity refill in G2 format features a metal shaft, a stainless steel tip with TC-grade ball and is filled with archival paste conforming to ISO 12757-2 – resistant to water, acid, light and bleach. Medium line width, black ink.
- Long-term ink retention: The P900 refill does not dry out even without a sealed cap – ideal for a twist mechanism without a closure cap.
- Hexagonal barrel: The geometry prevents rolling and provides a natural finger grip for writing.
Use & Tips
- Daily writing: The pen's weight takes the effort out of writing – less pressure needed, more even letterforms. This becomes particularly noticeable during longer texts, note-taking or daily journalling.
- Actively shaping the patina: If you carry the pen exclusively in one hand, you'll develop a personalised wear pattern exactly where your thumb and index finger rest. If you occasionally treat it with brass polish, you can selectively reset the ageing process.
- Refill compatibility: The Schmidt P900 M is a large-capacity refill in the international G2 format – compatible with all ballpoints designed for this format. Alternatively, any G2-compatible refill fits, for example with oil-based or quick-drying inks in other line widths.
- Paper: The medium line width of the P900 works on all standard paper weights. On smooth, calendered paper, the line appears even and rich; on rougher surfaces, the TC ball creates a subtly textured letterform.
- As a gift: The pen comes in a gift box and is suitable – thanks also to its timeless design – as a lasting companion for people who choose their writing instruments with care.
For Metal Enthusiasts
Ystudio manufactures the Classic series in Taiwan, where brass components are cast in local foundries at over a thousand degrees. Phosphor bronze – an alloy of copper, tin and phosphorus – is used in the twist mechanism because of its high spring hardness and corrosion resistance; these very properties make it the preferred material for precision components in writing instruments. The interplay of the three metals is therefore not merely aesthetic: each material sits where it performs most mechanically or visually.
