Ystudio Rollerball Pen Classic Revolve Brass
The Ystudio Classic Revolve liquid roller in brass is crafted from untreated brass, copper and phosphor bronze – without lacquer, without coating. The weight of the metal body sits noticeably in your hand: cool to the touch at first, heavy enough to deliver a steady, even line by its own momentum as you write. Over time, the brass develops a unique patina that turns each pen into a chronicle of its own history of use.
Features
- Body crafted from untreated brass and copper – no lacquer, no protective layer. Oxidation is harmless and can be reversed at any time with brass polish. Those who let it develop will observe how the pen acquires a distinctive, hand-warm tone over the years.
- Phosphor bronze as an additional structural element ensures precisely engineered joints and a stable twist mechanism – the "Revolve" in the name describes the click mechanism for extending the refill, which remains responsive and rattle-free even after thousands of actuations.
- Pre-installed Schmidt Safety Ceramic Roller refill 5888 F (black): ceramic ball with 0.6 mm diameter in a stainless steel housing with metal tube – flows smoothly from the start without a warm-up phase, leaving a fine, sharp line on smooth paper. The refill features a built-in ventilation system that prevents drying out – ideal for a capless retractable roller.
- No cap management needed: the twist mechanism fully retracts the refill into the body. No forgotten caps, no dried-out nib in your pocket.
- Made in Taiwan.
Use & Tips
- On smooth, calendered paper – whether notebook, daily planner or loose sheet – the ceramic tip of the Schmidt 5888 F runs with almost no friction. The smoother the paper, the more even the ink flow and the finer the line appears.
- The weight of the brass pen (approx. 33–35 g) shifts the centre of gravity to the middle of your hand – if you're used to light plastic-bodied liquid rollers, you'll need a moment on first use to adjust your grip pressure: less force is needed, the pen does the work through its own weight.
- Patina care: the natural oxidation of brass is chemically harmless. For a freshly polished appearance, simply use a soft cloth with brass polish. Those who appreciate patina as a characteristic can simply leave the pen in use.
- Replacement refills Schmidt Safety Ceramic Roller 5888 F (black, fine tip) are widely available in many sizes and colours. The pen accepts all refills in the Euro-Rollerball format (standard size).
- The refill is not archival – for documents requiring long-term preservation, choose a pigment-based alternative.
For Metal Pen Enthusiasts
Ystudio deliberately forgoes any surface treatment. This means: the grip zone of the brass pen changes through skin oils, ambient air and temperature in ways that any lacquer would suppress. Brass consists of copper and zinc – copper carries the colour, zinc affects hardness. Phosphor bronze (copper-tin-phosphorus alloy) is used by Ystudio for mechanically stressed components: it is significantly spring-harder and more wear-resistant than pure brass, making it ideal for functional elements like the click mechanism. The result is a writing instrument that contains three different metal alloys within itself – visible upon close inspection by the slightly different gold tones of the individual components.
