- The F nib works reliably with most smooth writing papers; on highly absorbent paper, the line width may increase slightly.

The AL-star's aluminium body is colour-anodised, not lacquered: the colour is embedded in the oxidation layer, making it more resistant to wear than paint. The polished stainless steel nib is black-coated – visually matching the matte black body, but technically identical to the uncoated version in terms of writing characteristics and nib flexibility. The F nib is designed for medium writing pressure and won't flex under normal writing force; those seeking springy line variation would be better served by a flex nib.
