TRC Pencil Case Brass
Solid brass, pressed from a single sheet – the Traveler's Company pen case has the cool, weighty feel of a metal tool and the understated profile of a flat case without unnecessary detail. The gently curved form is created by experienced press craftsmen in Tokyo and carries a warm gold tone from the outset that grows darker and more characterful over time.
Features
- Solid brass, no composite material: The case is made from solid brass sheet, not coated or plated – the wall thickness is substantial to the touch, the weight in your hand pleasingly solid.
- Oxidation patina as a design feature: Brass reacts with humidity and skin oils. Scratches, pressure marks and wear traces layer to create a surface that is unique to each piece – no lacquer, no protective film prevents this process.
- Pressed form from a Tokyo workshop: The curved shape is not cast but formed by pressing – a process that achieves precise dimensional accuracy and a smooth inner surface without sharp edges.
- Lid construction: The case opens via an applied lid that sits snugly and keeps pens secure even in your bag.
- Made in Japan.
Use & Tips
- Dimensions: At 17 × 5 × 1.6 cm, the case accommodates pens up to approximately 16–17 cm in length – ideal for the TRC Brass fountain pen, the TRC Brass pencil and similarly slender writing instruments. Thicker grips or travel fountain pens with extended caps should be checked beforehand.
- Shape your patina actively: If you want an even, darker tarnish, you can rub the brass with your fingers initially and store it in a damp location. If you prefer to keep the bright gold tone, wipe the case regularly with a dry cloth.
- Pairing with the TRC Brass line: The case is sized to match the TRC brass writing instruments and comfortably holds a fountain pen, pencil and a flat ruler side by side.
- As a desk organiser: The flat, smooth underside makes the case a stable pen rest on your desk – displayed open, it showcases your writing instruments like in a small display cabinet.
For Material Enthusiasts
Brass is a copper-zinc alloy sold without surface sealing. The supplied surface arrives bright polished and begins to oxidise within a few weeks: first a slight dulling of the shine, then increasingly bronze and brownish tones at contact points. This process is completely reversible – with brass polish or fine abrasive cloth, the original surface can be restored at any time. Pressing from solid sheet (no hollow casting) means the case remains dimensionally stable under pressure and has no welded seams or joints that could break.
