Blackwing Pencil Pearl blue (12 pcs)
The Blackwing Pearl in Blue is a graphite pencil with pearlescent blue lacquer finish, square metal ferrule and flat, replaceable eraser in denim blue. The graphite blend sits in hardness between the Blackwing 602 and the softer Blackwing Matte – balanced, smooth in stroke, with approximately 2–3B character. The 12-piece box can be used as a pencil holder. Made in Japan.
Features
- Graphite hardness "balanced" (approx. 2–3B): softer than the 602, firmer than the Blackwing Matte – the stroke gives way immediately, without smudging or crumbling when writing.
- Pearlescent blue lacquer finish: velvety sheen with cool, metallic shimmer – the surface feels smooth and seamless.
- Square Blackwing ferrule in silver: the distinctive shape that prevents the eraser from slipping and provides a characteristic grip feel.
- Flat, replaceable eraser in denim blue: the flat cut allows precise, controlled erasing – and can be replaced when worn down.
- Length approx. 20 cm: full, unsharpened length for maximum usable life.
- 12-piece gift box that can be used as a pencil holder: no separate storage needed, the box remains functional for everyday use.
Use & Tips
- For sketches and drawings with soft transitions: the balanced graphite core blends and layers well without leaving coarse grain.
- For handwriting: the smooth glide on paper makes long writing sessions more pleasant – especially on smooth, calendered paper, the quality of the stroke shows most clearly.
- Sharpening at a flat angle: for an unusually long, economical point, a pencil sharpener with a long sharpening channel is ideal – the manufacturer specifically recommends the KUM Long Point for this pencil.
- Calligraphers and illustrators: The hardness sits precisely between precise and soft. If you work with a Matte and are looking for a slightly firmer variant, you'll find a good middle ground here.
- As a gift: The box is sturdy, beautifully designed and functional – reusable as a pen holder on your desk.
For Pencil Enthusiasts
The Blackwing Pearl is based on a pencil developed by Eberhard Faber in the 1930s that disappeared from the market in 1998. Palomino resumed production in Japan in 2010 – with modern manufacturing but a recognisable connection to the original design. The square ferrule is not merely a design feature but a functional detail: it sits more securely in the eraser holder and can be replaced with a simple tool. The graphite core of the Pearl is known for its consistency – little variation in stroke, no stuttering, no sudden hardness change along the length of the pencil.
